Description
West Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A very nice example of a hand-carved mask with a conical, incised coiffure, almond-shaped eyes underneath large, projecting eyelids, a wide nose, and a pouting mouth. Each cheek is marked with three diamond-shaped incisions, probably representing scarification marks. Size: 5.2" W x 9.75" H (13.2 cm x 24.8 cm)
