**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 2nd century BCE. A large and elegant wheel-thrown terracotta buffware vessel with a flat base, a bulbous body, gently tapering shoulders, a wide mouth, a flared rim, and an applied loop handle. Traces of original orange-hued surface pigment remain on the body and inside the rim. Size: 5.25" W x 4" H (13.3 cm x 10.2 cm).
Provenance: private Carlton collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired between 1965 and 1980

Repair to handle, with repair and restoration to rim. Surface wear commensurate with age. Small chips and losses to rim, handle, and body. Small hairline fissures across body. Nice mineral and earthen deposits throughout interior and exterior surfaces.
