Description
Roman, Near East, Sidon, Lebanon, ca. mid-1st to early 2nd century CE. A fine, mold-blown cup comprised of deep aubergine-colored glass with a flared rim, and textured base. Surprisingly heavy in the hand and pleasing to hold, this cup has a refined form and a beautiful glass color palette - purple for the most part complemented by pale bursts of rainbow-hued iridescence. This region was famous for mold-blown glass during the 1st century CE, created using purple dye made from the mollusc Hexaplex trunculus. Size: 2.85" W x 2.4" H (7.2 cm x 6.1 cm)
