Roman, late Imperial Period, ca. 4th century CE. A fabulous free-blown transparent glass vessel of a deep, olive green, with a concave base and a smooth pontil scar, a widening body, and an everted rim, and a deep interior cavity. Ten applied blue glass dots are presented equidistantly in a ring around the midsection of the body, imbuing the vessel with a burst of vibrant color. The elegant fire-polished surface and near-absence of any weathering gives this jar almost the exact same appearance as it had in antiquity. A stunning example of high-quality Roman glassware! Very light encrustation around the interior of the rim, with some shallow surface scratches on the surface commensurate with age. In gorgeous condition, appearing almost as it would have when first made. Vessel once possessed a pontil scar or mark which indicates that the vessel was free-blown. (The absence of such a mark would suggest that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time.)
