Early Edo Period Japanese Matchlock Musket.
Unserialized, .45 caliber, 41-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front sight and fixed grooved-block rear sight. Decorative etched floral designs to top of barrel. Brass lock, hammer and trigger. Smooth hardwood full-body stock with floral fittings scattered throughout. Numerous engraved brass inlays to top and bottom of stock. Wood ramrod. Original brass museum inventory tag attached: J.M. DAVIS / 7952 / MEMORIAL.
Sold to Benefit The JM Davis Collection at the JM Davis Arms and Historical Museum.
Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a mottled grey patina, with noticeable signs of handling wear and patches of pitting. Scattered scuffs and scratches to wood. Action good. Pitted bore.
