Central Asia, Bronze Age, ca. late 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. An attractive example of a cast bronze axe head, its hollow body decorated with a zoomorphic motif. The butt end of the blade looks like a long-billed avian face, or possibly a long, lizard-like snout. The patina on this example is absolutely gorgeous, a pale blue with some blue-green elements. This item was probably made only to be ceremonial or given as a funerary offering, and it looks like it was never sharpened. Size: 5.6" W x 1.75" H (14.2 cm x 4.4 cm)
