Large Central Asian Bronze Axe Head
Large Central Asian Bronze Axe Head
Item Details
Description
Bactria-Margiana (BMAC), modern-day central Asia, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A heavy cast-bronze axe head with an oval-shaped hafting hole, a rough-surfaced butt end, a thin midrib on both top and bottom spines extending from the hafting hole, and two gradually-widening blade faces which terminate at a curved blade edge. Though the exposed surfaces are covered in light layers of earthen material, areas of vibrant emerald-green patina are still visible. This axe likely saw use in combat given the size and form, and would have been a formidable obstacle for any opposing forces to defeat. Size: 7.25" L (18.4 cm).

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection
