Central Europe, St. Poelten, Austria, La Tene culture (Celtic), ca. 500 to 0 BCE. A cast bronze votive axe head in the style of those from a famous La Tene site, with a raised triangular pattern on the upper part of the blade and a loop for attachment on one side of the socket. Weapons like this one have a great deal of individual variation, probably reflecting the preferences of the person commissioning them, who would have been buried with this ceremonial item - weaponry created for actual use from this period was made of iron. Size: 1.85" W x 3.4" H (4.7 cm x 8.6 cm)
