Description
1843 RARE Life of President George Washington John Marshall Revolutionary War 2v
“The Constitution is colorblind, and neither knows nor tolerates classes among citizens.” ― John Marshall
John Marshall admired George Washington greatly and sought to publish a thorough biography on the President’s life. It was based on written records that were provided by Washington’s family. However, two-thirds of this biography is concerned with Washington’s military career and depicts an accurate portrayal of the major battles of the American Revolutionary War (Sparks, preface).
This second edition is the first revised printing of the original two volume set. Marshall says of this edition, “I have at length completed an abridgment of the Life of Washington for the use of schools. I have endeavored to compress it as much as possible. ... After striking out everything which in my judgment could be properly excluded the volume will contain at least 400 pages."
