Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. An elegant mold-formed glass jar of a pale sage-green color, globular form, and near-transparent presentation. The vessel has a slight concave base with a rough pontil scar, a spherical body, a short and broad neck, a collared rim, and a deep interior. Roughly a dozen molded vertical ribs line the body, giving it a textured feel, and applied zigzag latticework rigaree oscillates between rim and shoulder. Scattered areas of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence complement the verdant body coloration in hues of sapphire, topaz, citrine, amethyst, and emerald. A superb example of refined Roman glass-blowing artistry! Lucite block for photography purposes only. Size: 2.75" W x 2.375" H (7 cm x 6 cm).
