Item Details
Description
Manufactured in Holland or possibly Germany, traded to the Dogon people of Mali, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. A strand of 19 large, diamond-shaped glass trade beads, all deep blue, with fantastic pearlescent patina in their lower profile areas. The beads have lightly textured surfaces, rather than being smooth, a result of their manufacturing process. The Dutch traded beads of this style with the Dogon people in exchange for furs, raw materials, and slaves. These beads are strung on a modern cord and could be worn! Length of chain: 27" L (68.6 cm); size of largest bead (they have some variation in size as shown in the photographs): 1.75" H (4.4 cm)
