Description
Made in Europe, Venice, Italy, found in western Africa, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. A group of approximately 135 deep blue, slightly translucent trade beads, all rounded or disc-shaped. The color is a rich cobalt. Trade beads played a major role in the age of European exploration and colonization, serving as currency on multiple continents. These beads were used in West Africa. All are displayed together on a modern string. Length of strand: 27" L (68.6 cm); size of largest bead: 0.2" W (0.5 cm)
