Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Late Classic, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hollow earthenware rattle and whistle, mold-made, in the form of a woman holding a child. Both wear headdresses and their attire suggests that they are high status. This is a rare subject matter for Mayan art, which rarely depicts children. Rattles and whistles in the form of standing figures are very common funerary items, found in all levels of burials. Size: 2" L x 4.45" W x 5.8" H (5.1 cm x 11.3 cm x 14.7 cm)
