Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque (Jama Coaque), ca. 500 CE. A wonderful mold-made standing figure. The figure has the posture and overall appearance of an anthropomorphic figure, standing bipedally with rolled shoulders and wearing an ornate headdress, but exhibits more simian-esque features upon closer inspection. The figure has round eyes and a short snout, clawed fingers and toes, and an enormous tail projecting from its posterior. Embellished with brilliant orange and turquoise pigmentation, this is a fabulous figural example from ancient Ecuador! Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 3.5" H (8.9 cm); 5.25" H (13.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Figure repaired from multiple pieces around waist, posterior, and tail with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Expected age-commensurate surface wear, fading to pigmentation and some facial features, losses to tail, top of head, torso, and feet, otherwise very good. Light earthen deposits throughout.
