Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 700 to 1470 CE. An earthtone pair of textile straps, these pieces are comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca) fibers in brown and black hues. The straps are comprised of alternating sections of light and dark fibers and are conjoined at the terminals. Mounted on a fabric-lined cardboard backing. Size: 11.875" L x 8.25" W (30.2 cm x 21 cm).
Provenance: private Slavin collection, acquired in Peru and Bolivia from 1971 to 1972
