Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, probably Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A nice group of three varied textiles from ancient Peru, probably from the Chimu or neighboring Inca. One is a multi-colored strap with long tassels hanging from either side. Another is a bag with a checkerboard pattern on its lower half and a classic zoomorphic tesselated motif on the upper half. The third is a panel depicting a human/animal hybrid figure within a zoomorphic, serpent-like border. A bright spray of red fibers hangs from one end of the panel. All of these were made to be worn both in life and in death. Size of panel: 5.3" W x 8.5" H (13.5 cm x 21.6 cm)

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection
