Description
Three black glazed pottery vessels, Greek South Italy, circa 4th-3rd century BC, including: a Gnathian Ware prochous, the body decorated with vine leaves and tendrils with bands of dots, ovolo and tongues on the neck, enlivened with cream, yellow and crimson slip with some incisions, and a double band of crimson; a Xenon Ware oinochoe, with worn chevron and 'z' designs on the body; and a guttus, set on a high ridged foot, the shoulder finely ribbed and the discus moulded with a scene showing a himation-clad female running and holding a thyrsus, with a loop handle and a vertical spout Provenance: Purchased Bonhams, 16 May 2002, lot 540 Ex Swiss private collection
