**First Time At Auction**

Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Campania, ca. 4th to 3rd century BCE. A wheel-thrown pitcher known as an olpe. The vessel presents a vertically-striated, apple-shaped body resting atop a squat foot and has a broad, cylindrical neck, a flared rim, and a curved handle with forked upper terminals. Every inch of the exterior surfaces save for beneath the foot are covered in black glaze that has developed a deep luster over time. Vessels like this were used to pour minute volumes of perfumes and scented oils. Size: 2.375" W x 3.1" H (6 cm x 7.9 cm)
