Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $250**

Pre-Columbian, Bolivia, Tiahuanaco (Tiwanaku), ca. 400 to 1100 CE. A flaring, flat-bottomed ceramic kero (quero) with two registers of black-line wave motifs around the exterior. The body is painted with dark red, orange, and brown, and the outlined motifs overlay these bright colors. Waves are an interesting choice for a culture located inland, but they perhaps refer to weather on vast lake Titicaca, located northwest of the site of Tiahuanaco. A vessel like this one was probably used to hold chicha. Size: 5.5" W x 6.3" H (14 cm x 16 cm)

Provenance: private Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA collection
