Description
Pre-Columbian, Western Bolivia, Tiahuanaco (Tiwanaku) culture, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. A gorgeous, crescent-shaped vessel featuring a highly graphic, playfully painted motif and a pair of small, appliqued birds seated on its lengthy elliptical shoulders. The conical neck flares slightly as it rises to its opening and is painted in an off-set checkered design. The shoulders display a strong linear motif of alternating thick and thin black-on-white lines. Each side of its body is painted with lively illustrations of an identical zoomorphic figure in a jolly disposition over a dotted backdrop. Size: 7.5" L x 3" W x 7.25" H (19 cm x 7.6 cm x 18.4 cm)
