Description
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Oaxaca or Guerrero region, Mixtec culture, ca. 1000 to 1400 CE. A gorgeous, hand-built pottery vase of a sizable form bearing a wide, conical foot surmounted by a tall, tapered vase body. Highly burnished and presented in hues of burnt umber, marigold, honey, cream, and jet black, the vessel bears a high luster that emphasizes it majority of its monochromatic body. Encircling the rim and upper body is a skillful decorative program exhibiting logograms in abstract curvilinear and geometric forms, each panel being separated from its neighbor by columns of yellow and red horizontal stripes. Size: 7.25" W x 13.2" H (18.4 cm x 33.5 cm)
This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated.

Condition
Professionally repaired from over a dozen large pieces, with restoration to large area of foot measuring roughly 8" long by 3" tall, and resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and nicks commensurate with age, with a few small spalls, fading to some areas of original pigment, and light encrustations in scattered areas. Great preservation to decorative motifs along upper body. TL drill holes beneath foot and along exterior of upper rim.
