**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Near East, Holy Land / Levant, Late Bronze Age, ca. 1550 to 1200 BCE. A large terracotta oil lamp, made from a coarse clay with small pebble-shaped inclusions, in a saucer-shaped profile with a small round base. It has a narrow, pinched rest for its wick spout and a shallow interior cavity. Lamps of this style were hugely important to the lives of the people who used them; in the Old Testament, various important people are compared by analogy to the significance of a lamp like this one. Size: 5" Diameter (12.7 cm).

Condition
Repair to one side and part of spout with visible adhesive residue. Surface wear commensurate with age and use, very light char marks to wick spout, with earthen and mineral deposits throughout. An old inventory sticker on the underside reads "73" in black ink.
