This lot consists of an Original Oil on Canvas Signed 'C. Korovin' in Cyrillic. This piece is titled 'Paris' and is painted in the impressionist style of Konstantine (Constantine) Korovin (1861- 1939) Russia. Korovin was a master of impressionism born in Russia, and was accepted into the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where he later taught, and the most prestigious Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg. He was a master of both the Art Nouveau and Impressionist styles. This painting pushes to the edge of representational art, and depicts autos, trees and pedestrians as vague spirits implied in the brushed dashes. The wet pavement presents a playground for powerful display of his mastery of light. Korovin signatures contain either a “K†or a “C†as the first letter, depending on whether it was from his life in Russia or later, in Paris.
