This lot consists of an Original Watercolor on Paper Signed 'A. Mintchine'. Done in the abstract still life style associated with Abraham Mintchine, (1891 - 1931, Russia/Ukraine/France). Born in Russia, Mintchine emigrated to Berlin then Paris in 1926. Living in poverty, his prospects brightened by the late 1920's, but his health deteriorated and he died of tuberculosis not long thereafter. He displayed a wide range of skills as a painter. As is typical of his other works, this one has a whimsical way the produce is displayed on the ledge for no apparent reason. The explosive angularity of the carrots is the most direct reflection of reality, while the careful attention to textured dappling on the building and road surfaces bears invites careful scrutiny. A shadowy figure lurks in the foreground of the window, surveying the treasure. Everything else in the painting is cleverly implied like the basket and the leaves and pommes du terre in the streets.
