New and revised edition. Two volume set. 368pp, 391pp. Original blind-embossed brown cloth, brightly gilt-stamped spine titles. A "Catalogue of Lea and Blanchard's Publications" in rear of volume one. A fold-out facsimile letter from John Adams as frontispiece to volume two. Scattered foxing on pages, corners modestly worn, still a very good set with cloth lightly soiled. President James Monroe named him the ninth Attorney General of the United States, a position he held for 12 years, through the administration of John Quincy Adams, until 1829, thus having the longest term as Attorney General in U.S. history. .
