Description
Greece, Corinth, ca. 6th century BCE. A tall, slender polychrome alabastron - used for holding perfumes and scented oils - with a characteristic round bottomed, piriform body that rises to a flat rim with an applied handle joining rim to neck, decorated on the side with goose or swan and a large wild boar, both standing in profile and created via added brown and red pigments with incised details. The field is further adorned with stylized brown rosettes, the neck with tongues, and double striated bands above and below the pictorial scene. A nice example! Size: 3.75" in diameter at widest point x 8.375" H (9.5 cm x 21.3 cm)
