Description
Greece, Corinthia, ca. 6th century BCE. A very attractive polychrome aryballos (a vessel used to hold scented oils and perfumes in the bath) of a classic globular form with a circular flat rim and a single wide strap handle. The body is decorated with an ibex surrounded by abstract floral/foliage motifs in red and black pigments and incised details. In addition, a bulls eye pattern adorns the rim and base. A very lovely example with a very old, possibly original, wooden stopper. Size: 2.75" in diameter at widest x 2.75" H (7 cm x 7 cm)
