Description
Greece, Corinthia, ca. 6th century BCE. A polychrome aryballos (a vessel used to hold scented oils and perfumes in the bath) of a classic globular form with a circular flat rim and a single wide strap handle. The body is decorated with abstract palmettes as well as linear bands and frets adorning the shoulder in red and black pigments with incised details. A lovely example. Size: 4.375" in diameter x 5" H (11.1 cm x 12.7 cm)

Condition
This piece probably sat in the earth, submerged about half way, hence the accretions that have developed on one side. Chip to rim and surface wear. Root marks on base.
