Item Details
Description
**First Time At Auction**

Greece, Corinth, Rhodes, or eastern Greece, Archaic period, 600 BCE. A pretty, tall aryballos with a motif including a Pegasus around its body. An aryballos is a vessel with a small, round/ovoid body and a narrow neck terminating in a slightly flared, very narrow spout. The broad, flat lip is designed to prevent spillage. The iconography on this piece is from the "Orientalizing Period," when Corinthian pottery items showed the influence of eastern trade connections with the city - creating art with stylized plants and animal friezes, inspired by trade with the Levant, Egypt, and Assyria. Size: 3" W x 4.5" H (7.6 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: private Swiss collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
