Description
Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Honduras/El Salvador, Copador, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A polychrome terracotta bowl of a deep rounded form decorated in the characteristic Copador style, the interior with a wide register featuring scorpions, turtles, and anteater/aardvark-like animals in a wide register surrounded by wavy and striated bands with the rim segmented into rectangular block motifs - all in red, black, and white on a cream hued ground, the exterior with bold striated bands punctuated by chevron and circular-drop motifs. Size: 7.75" in diameter x 4" H (19.7 cm x 10.2 cm)

Chips to rim, a few pressure fissures downward from rim, surface wear with pigment loss, and pitting/erosion to underside of base as shown. Nice root marks. Dish display in photos not included.
