Jim Griffiths (American, Chicago, 1947 - ) gouache, a view of the U.S.S. Constitution as she looked in 1798, a year after she was commissioned. Titled “Pride of the American Side” Old Ironsides is perhaps the most famous ship ever, designed to defend our Constitution for which she is named. Griffiths has been a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artist since 1985 and is well know for his paintings of ships, often commissioned by someone who served on a particular vessel. Signed Jim Griffiths A.S.M.A. lower right. A history of Old Ironsides is attached to the back of the painting along with the notation by the artist: (artist’s pic. no. 0616), gouache, 1988 18 3/4 X 27 1/4.” Overall size width frame and double mat is 27 1/2 by 35 3/4 inches. Excellent condition.
