Description
Two Jim Griffiths (American, Chicago, 1947 - ) amazingly detailed gouaches, separate views of the American wooden clippers "Woodward" painted in 1987 and "Young America" painted in 1984. Griffiths has been a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artist since 1985 and is well know for his paintings of ships, often commissioned by someone who served on a particular vessel. Woodward is signed Jim Griffiths A.S.M.A. lower right and Young America is signed and dated ‘84, lower right. Sight size of both is 6 1/4 by 10 3/4 inches and overall size with frame and matting is 14 1/4 by 18 1/4 inches for Woodward. Young America's sight size is 6 1/2 by 11 inches and 13 3/4 by 17 1/2 inches overall. Excellent condition in both cases. Information about the the ships themselves is hand written on the backs of each work as are the artist's numbers.
