Hebert Laurence Davidson (American, Illinois, 1930 - present) oil painting on linen entitled “Holding the Line” showing a tiny African-American girl holding the middle of a jump rope. Signed lower right. Sight size is 16 3/4 by 12 3/4 inches and overall with frame is 23 3/4 by 19 5/8 inches. Perfect condition. Herb Davidson was born in Chicago in 1930 and has generally made Chicago his home ever since. A student of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Davidson is know for his precise images which generally involve interesting people from varied backgrounds. He is famous for painting portraits of entertainment celebrates but his portrayal of regular folk is much more interesting.
