Description
Rare Newspaper dated December 16, 1862. The "Southern Confederacy" was published daily ( except Mondays ) in Atlanta Georgia, by Hanleiter & Adair, from April 14, 1861 until it ceased publication in 1865, coveringsubjects & being issued in Fulton, Macon & Bibb Counties. Can be found on microfilm at the University of Georgia Library, but a very rare title found in tact, in original newsprint format. First published in 1859 byDr. James P. Hambleton, a strong voice for the city of Atlanta with editorials that were considered to be highly intemperate in tone ( a fire-eater & Southern Democrat ) who joined the Confederate Army, thustransferring the title to C. R. Hanleiter & George W. Adair, who merged it with their "Gate & Guardian" newspaper & retained the original name "Southern Confederacy". A rare piece of Civil War History!
