Outstanding stamped brass shield-form badge with gem-size portraits depicting Lincoln at left and Johnson at right. The arch top portraits are contained within U.S. flag elements surmounted by a federal eagle with spread wings. In its beak, the eagle holds ribbon with text "[For] President & Vice President." At bottom of badge a federal shield bears the date "1864." An exceedingly rare specimen. While approximately half a dozen of these ferrotype jugate pinbacks are known to collectors, this unique example bears no enamel accents [nor any evidence of enamel having ever been present]. Features crisp ornament and well defined edges.
