ENGLISH AMERICAN HISTORICAL EAGLE CERAMIC ARTICLES, LOT OF THREE, comprising two waste bowls and one plate, all having the American eagle with a shield and a banner reading "E PLURIBUS UNUM" beneath, along with geometric stick spatter design in blue around rim of plate and interior and exterior of waste bowls. All marked on base with R Hammersley name and registration. Ralph Hammersley & Son, Staffordshire, England. Circa 1868. Waste bowl 3 1/4", plate 8 3/4" D.
Manufacturing flaw in glaze on base of one waste bowl with slight separation of the glaze, and one area on a foot rim where a small flake was created after the kiln firing with removal of the kiln furniture.
Provenance: Property from the collection of Robert and Patsy Hassert, Strasburg, VA.
Catalogue Note: This pattern was originally made for the American Embassy in London, and was made to celebrate the end of the Civil War and the return to "E Pluribus Unum".
