Description
EARLY JAPANESE FIREARM - Late Edo Period (1615-1868) Matchlock Short Gun (Bajozutsu), the 5 1/2" .50 cal. iron barrel having inlaid silver dragon silver and gold key rim, signed in gold. Hardwood stock with brass lined hole for tether (horseback use), brass furnishings, including knurled trigger, lovely shape to the iron hammer and brass trigger guard. 16 1/2" long overall. Very good condition. The bajozutsu was closer to a carbine in size and length and was typically used by mounted samurai, and other mounted troops because it was easier to load and fire from horseback than a full sized musket (Teppo), this example could even be considered a Tanzutsu, or a holster gun.
