Description
Southern Italy, Apulia / Daunian, ca. 300 BCE. Daunian society was a mixture of native Italians and Greeks who had settled in the area, with their pottery influenced by both cultures. This is a simple, small oinochoe, or pouring vessel, with a single flat strap-style handle and black and red banded linear decorations around the body and up the handle over a cream background; these geometric decorations are called listati. The wide strap handle is a particular signifier of Daunian pottery. Size: 4.35" W x 5.25" H (11 cm x 13.3 cm).
