Description: Circa 1870 Albumen Photograph on Mount Board; Depiction of the sidewheel Ferryboat JULIA of Stockton, California in wharf. A brass band poses in formation. Each member wearing a uniform and holding musical instruments. Several men look on from the background. Research indicates that the Steamer JULIA exploded in the South Vallejo wharf on Feb. 27, 1888. The horrible disaster caused the loss of 30 - 40 lives, and injury to others. Some of the bystanders are blurred or appear as ghosts as they moved during the exposure.
Dimensions: The photograph mount size is about 13-7/8 x 11 inches. Actual image size is about 8-1/2 x 7 inches.
Condition: overall light soiling, staining, fading, occasional surface scuffs and edge wear to mount including tears and corner loss.
