This helmet is made of lacquered brass, wrapped in a band of spotted beige and brown fur and topped with a Roman-style brass crest with red hair. Two clawed paws meet just in front of the crest with leather straps trailing to the ears from them, brass plates over top of the straps. A sphinx is just beneath the paws with scrolls bearing the words "Ava" and "Bhurtpoor" on either side of the base, which bears the word "Egypt."

Condition: Some peeling of the black lacquer beneath the visor, loss of adhesive beneath the fur, patination of the brass, and minor bending of the brass at the crest.
History: Despite the name, the Bengal Horse Artillery did not consist of Bengali men, rather it was primarily Bihar and Awadh in ethnicity. The Artillery regiment was a part of the Bengal Presidency, one of the three in British India. It belonged to the British East India Company until 1895 when it was merged into the singular Indian Army.
