Obverse: Shield of the Society divided into three fields; above two rowing boats, two clasped hands (C) below, a three-masted ship in a gale; for crest, a cottage with ribbon. Inscription: "REFUGE". Below, a ribbon with date "1791". Legend: "THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF MASSACHUSETTS". Signed "B. Wyon f London". Reverse: "REWARD OF MERIT - COURAGE AND PERSEVERANCE", engraved "To William A. Morse for Saving the Life of Arthur Francis Butler, August 5th, 1882". 57mm, 2.56 ozt. Rim nicks, tarnished.
