Description
Roman Empire, Arezzo, Italy, 15 BCE to 30 CE. Important and extremely rare Arretine Terra Sigillata pottery dish. Only manufactured during a 45 year window at Arezzo, Italy about 200 km north of Rome in the Etrurian heartland. One of the most desirable of all Roman wares, this deep redware dish on short foot has nearly vertical sides decorated with added applique elements including handles, two lions, two hounds and two rosettes. On the interior is a stamp of a foot - Planta Pedis - and the letters G. E. ? I. Size: 6-3/4" in diameter x 1-3/8"H.
