Item Details
Description
Roman Republic / early Roman Empire, ca. 200 BCE to 100 CE. Before the invention of glass blowing in the first century CE, Roman manufacturers of household goods used a variety of other materials to form vessels for use in everyday life. This fabulous ancient bronze pouring vessel is an example of both utility and design. The narrow, slightly strappy handle has a flared column design with a human face at its base, a flat, open rim, and a wide mouth. The wide mouth suggests that this pitcher was used for pouring water. Size: 7.25" W x 6.5" H (18.4 cm x 16.5 cm)

Provenance: Ex-private London, England collection.
