Description
Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 400 CE. Two finely hand built, polychrome deep bowls in hues of chocolate brown, red, cream, and orange, with rounded bottoms and flaring rims. Each bowl is painted with a large register of repeated trophy heads. One displays eight visages in composite profile (face in profile with frontal eyes) with long locks of flowing hair and/or headbands and varying skin tones, some with deep orange complexions, others a creamy white. The other shows seven smiling frontal faces, variously complected in orange and brown hues. Size of larger bowl: 7.25" W x 3.75" H (18.4 cm x 9.5 cm) Size of smaller bowl: 6.75" W x 3.75" H (17.1 cm x 9.5 cm)

Condition
Both repaired from several pieces with paint over the break lines. This said, still two strong examples of Nazca pottery.
