Description
An unusual badge from the New York Central predecessor line the Big Four Route. The Big Four was the Cleveland Cincinnati, Chicago & St Louis Railroad. Many of the larger railroads were created by acquiring connecting and competing lines. This is no exception. The center oval has the New York Central Lines and the great part is that this badge has a solid rather than a hollow back. It is hallmarked for the J. R. Gaunt Co in New York and it also says Made in England. Gaunt is better known for making military insignia than railroad badges. This is an unusual and older badge.
