JEFFERSON DAVIS' CAPTURE CARTE DE VISITE PHOTOS, LOT OF TWO, the first depicting the former President of the Confederate States in women's clothing, comprised of a photograph of his face imposed on a drawing of a female figure attempting to run in a dress, and captioned "Now therefore I, Jefferson Davis, / President of the Confederate States of America. / all I want is to be let alone!"; the second with a gold painted double band to border, featuring a drawing of a bent-over figure entering a tunnel, with "C.S.A." to his backside, and captioned "THE END OF JEFF DAVIS" over the image, and "He takes the Underground / Railway." under the image, obverse with elaborately bordered "PHOTOGRAPHED / BY / Patton & Sauerbier, / 568 Penn St, Reading, PA." Second half 19th century. The first 3 15/16" x 2 3/8", the second 4" x 2 1/2".

Condition
The first with some spatter/staining to face, some edge and corner wear, and staining to the back; the second in excellent condition overall, with minimal edge and corner wear, and some very minor staining to the back.
