JEFFERSON DAVIS' CAPTURE CARTE DE VISITE PHOTOS / CARDS, LOT OF TWO, the first depicting the former President of the Confederate States in women's clothing, wielding a large knife or "Arkansas toothpick" as he is surrounded by Union soldiers, and captioned "Last Ditch / Don't Provoke me (the President) or I shall do some one harm."; the second a metamorphic / flip-book type example, with folded and numbered paper panels that alter the overall image as they unfold, titled "Jeff. Davis, the successful Politician." captioned "LIFE OF JEFF. DAVIS. / METAMORPHOSIS No. 1" and marked "Published by B. DAY, 48 Beekman St., N. Y." Second half 19th century. Each 4" x 2 3/8".

Condition
Each with minor edge and corner wear; the first in very good condition overall, with some creases to the top two corners, and inscribed in pencil to back "This was made to show the cap - ture of Jefferson Davis, when he was trying to escape after the Civil War."; the second most likely missing one or more panels, as numbers 3, 6, and 7 are not present, and the remaining panels have expected light wear and creases, with one or two minor tears, and some staining to the back of the card.
