Description
American (Columbus, Ohio), dated December 7th, 1862. Carved from hickory. In addition to the date and location, carved into the cane is "J.L. Breedlove" (probably the maker), as well as a heart and pointing hand. 36"l. Cataloguer's note: Camp Chase was a military staging and training camp established in Columbus, Ohio, in May of 1861, which later included a large Union-operated prison camp for Confederate prisoners during the war.
