Morgan they say is ordered to Kentucky it is said to tare [sic] up the Rail Road track."

He continues later, "The boys were all in hopes that we would get to go back up in the mountain country, it is said that Col. Dibrell had choice either to go up home or stay with the Brigade, some of the boys are down on him."

Huddleston mentions a man by the name of Ned who is likely an enslaved person who must have been known by many of the men in Huddleston's unit. He writes, "We understand that Ned is not willing to come and cook for us, if he is not willing, we do not want him. We would like very well to have a good n----- cook, we do not care so much about his cooking as we do tending to other business for us."

[With:] Letter from "H. J. Davis" to his nephew, Edward. 27 September. He writes, in part: "...my negroes are for sale I would prefer selling them there and to some of the family if any wish to buy for cash or its equivalent I will come as soon as I can in safety for the yellow fever."
