Heavy black canvas oil cloth, M1855 double bag type with three leather closure straps, shoulder straps and blanket roll straps on top with black painted steel buckles and copper rivets attaching leather to canvas, inner flap with two interior leather straps at base of this flap, outer weather flap with penciled name on interior N. Watkins, with what appears to be a town and state name also in pencil below and in another hand, town illegible, but state appears to be Ohio. Unfortunately there were quit a number of N. Watkins in the Union Army during the war, 16 x 5 x 15" high. Condition leather intact but slightly dry, canvas waterproofing worn in places, still VG.
